Films about epidemics and viruses: what to see


The idea that one day some dangerous virus will destroy a large part of the population is not new. Scriptwriters try on a variety of scenarios on humanity – from fantastic to more real, so in our selection there is a film about epidemics for every taste.

Strain Andromeda, 1971

Plot: The film takes place in a secret military laboratory in the middle of the desert, in which scientists investigate an alien virus that causes mutations in its carrier. The virus came to Earth with a space probe. Will he be able to defeat?

Epidemic 1995

Plot: A monkey becomes the carrier of a dangerous virus that the military developed as a weapon. The virus is similar to hemorrhagic fever, and mortality from it is 100%. At first, two were ill, but the virus spreads rapidly and enters from Africa to the United States. The protagonist Sam Daniels is looking for a way to defeat a dangerous disease, not knowing that the military has long had a serum that helps to recover. The count goes to the clock because his wife has already become infected.

Plot: Courier Jim emerges from a coma in a hospital and discovers that the whole country is in a terrible epidemic. People under the influence of a virus become aggressive and kill each other. An interesting presentation of the epidemic – in fact, it is not the infection itself that kills, but those infected with an altered psyche. The film is also interesting because it has alternative endings.

The Invasion, 2007

Plot: A mysterious epidemic that arose due to infection by an unknown virus on board the space shuttle "Patriot" acts in a strange way. The virus after penetration into the body is activated when its carrier falls asleep. The main character Carol (Nicole Kidman) notices that some people in her circle begin to behave strangely, and she wants to save herself and her son from the virus.

Blindness, 2008

Plot: An epidemic has begun in an unknown metropolis: residents lose their sight one after another and, this is a danger to them all. The film reveals the most diverse qualities of people who appear in an emergency.

Quarantine, 2008

Plot: Journalist Angela Weidel (Jennifer Carpenter) and the operator go to one of the fire stations to take off a report on the difficult and dangerous work of firefighters. Television journalists almost immediately go on a trip to the same house, where the old woman screams from the top floor. Heroes rush to the rescue, but the old woman rushes to the journalists and bites them. One of the neighbors, a veterinarian, suggests rabies, and quarantine is declared throughout the building. And Angela is trying to get to the truth.

Infection, 2011

Plot: The film describes the actions of the World Health Organization and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the fight against the unknown virus. Its danger lies in the fact that mortality is higher than 20, and later – 25%, since it mutates. The virus is extremely contagious, and the incubation period is very short. Within a few months, people die while doctors develop a vaccine.

Plot: The picture raises an interesting question – what will happen if a cyber virus spreads in the country when equipment and energy sources do not work instead of infecting people. In the confrontation between China and the United States, the former plan to take control of the latter. As a result of a cyber attack, airplanes fall, communication means do not work, every American has a bracelet on his arm that controls his whereabouts. The main character is a cybernetic trying to save the country.
